Gunmen Kill Factional APC Chieftain in Bayelsa

Factional chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon Sunday Frank Oputu has been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence in Baybridge road in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

A source who prefers anonymity disclosed that the gunmen jumped the fence of the house of the deceased and fired sporadic gunshots which led to fatal injuries on the late politician.

The source further explained that the deceased was later rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Yenagoa but later gave up the ghost before the medical officials at the hospital could commence treatment on the late APC chieftain.

It was also gathered that the death of the late politician may not be unconnected with the warring factions within APC as the last ward, local government and state congresses that produced the Dennis Otiotio led executives which are still being contested in court.

Investigations by ReflectorTV24.com also revealed that the warring factions which are the Chief Timipre Sylva, the current Minister of State for Petroleum Resources faction and that of Henekien Lokpobiri, a former Senator were vehemently opposed to each other as far as the executive members of the party is concerned which led to a litigation in court.

The hearing of the litigation in court that was being presided over by Justice Aganaba was violently disrupted by irrate youths who were later allegedly identified thugs in the camp of Chief Timipre Sylva a couple of weeks ago.

The late politician who was a former Chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) was a strong member of Heineken Lokpobiri faction of the party and had been allegedly standing against the outcome of the last congress of the party in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswatt confirmed the incidence, stressing that the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa state Command has charged his men and officers to go out and fish out the killers of the late politician.
