In view of the deplorable condition of the road leading to Asamabiri community in Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa state, a retired senior staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Napoleon Ekperi has called on Bayelsa state government and the member representing the community in the state House of Assembly to look into the plight of the sleepy community.
Napoleon Ekperi stated this during the burial ceremony of his late wife, Mrs Ebiye Ekperi at Asamabiri, noting that the road to the community is deplorable and has led to zero economic activity of the people in the community.
He further pointed out that a motorable road is garmane to the socio-economic development of any society, adding that the Asamabiri community is lacking this very important infrastructure and should therefore be given prominent attentipn by all relevant government agencies, stakeholders and multinational oil companies operating in the community.
In the same vein, the vice President of Asamabiri community, Charles Ebiaridoh stated that the Niger Development Commission awarded the contract for the construction of the road to Okmas Construction Company but nothing has happened and ended at Osekemeke, a border community, emphasizing that this has led to untold hardship on the people of the community.
He also revealed that all efforts to draw the attention of the state government and the state and National Assembly members representing the community to the terrible condition of the really road were to no avail.
He called on NDDC, the state government and other stakeholders to look into the ugly plight of residents of the community, explaining that the road leads to Onitsha in Amambara State which will make it a beehive of economic activities if it is constructed.
