Bayelsa Government Declares Closure of Forests for One Week

The Bayelsa State government through its Ministry of Environment declares the closure of forests in the state starting from Monday 10th January to Sunday 17th January 2022.

The ministry said during this period, there will be no removal of timber from the forests.

A statement from the Permanent Secretary, Mr Waripamo Amaitari noted that all timber dealers, law enforcement agencies and the general public should take note as any one found wanting would be made to face the law with their trucks impounded.

This move is part of efforts of the ministry to check deforestation and diversion of revenue meant for the Bayelsa State government.
