Cross River Government Warns Against Illegal Wood Logging
The Cross Rivers State government has given a stern warning to illegal wood loggers whose activities has led to the depletion of the forest reserves in the state.
Governor Ben Ayade gave the warning as he noted that many communities that are have massive forests have been dislocated and their land mass eroded which have created huge environmental challenges with a long term negative effect.
Governor Ayade while speaking with newsmen in Calabar said he would not hesitate to use anyone caught engaging in this nefarious activity regardless of their
social status as a scape goat for others to learn from.
He noted that the illegal wood loggers have formed a cartel with the notion that they can go against the law.
He emphasized that those who feel they are above the law when caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The governor reiterated that his administration is not interested in anyone who think they can just deplete the forest causing challenges for future generations.
He adds that his administration is tired of setting up task forces and committees to tackle the menace hence a new approach such as special espionage would be used to arrest the culprits.
