In this exclusive interview with our Managing Editor, VICTOR OROYI, Dan Kpodoh says Bolobolo rekindles Ijaw cultural diversity and value.  Dan Kpodoh, a Port Harcourt based theatre practitioner is set to stage his new play, Bolobolo, he shares his thought and tells us about the play and its significance to society.  Excerpts;

How profitable is theatre production in Port Harcourt?

Theatre Production in Port Harcourt is very profitable with the right sponsors. Basically if you have enough financial support for a state of the arts performance, your audience will be eager for more and they will tell others about it.  And the increase in your audience is the increase in you income, let me not even go into the digital audience. The theatre business is one full of so much to offer it’s investors.

What’s the expectation for your May 8 production?

I am hoping this production shall rekindle the love for the Ijaw culture.  I am using the production also to showcase the richness of the Ijaw culture. After the full combination of all these, I am expecting a full house and a standing ovation at the end of the production during the night.

What’s the message behind Bolobolo?

The message of Bolobolo is one that is targeted to the family, the play shows how strife can grow in the heart of young ones and one day explode, causing a divide that can never be amended. This art work encapsulates the beauty as well as the diversity of the rich culture of the Ijaw people.

Share your experience on your various production and attendance?

When I started the turn up was poor but when the publicity team was created, we move from one success to another. When you find good food you will call others to come and taste, when you have quality, plenty people will come to patronize you. One thing about myself is that when I set mind to do something I give my all, When I did Struggle in town people kept on asking for it, I had to bring it to the Uniport Theater for another 4 days and the crowd loved it. I pay attention to detail and that is one thing that has helped me stand out.

Then God’s are Not To Blame the musical this was a very technical production and it was drift from the “God’s are not to blame” that was directed by Ola Rotimi. Even after doing the production the reviews and videos were still surfing the social media because the digital audience loved what they saw as well as the physical ones.
