DO Foundation Calls for Immediate Clean Up The Niger Delta
Dise Goddy-Harry, Executive Director of DO Foundation, a non-governmental organization, NGO calls for the immediate clean-up exercise of the Niger Delta region by Federal Government, FG and oil companies operating in the area.
She made the call while speaking with Reflector TV reporter during a peaceful protest organized by Social Action and The Bayelsa Non Governmental Organizations Forum, BANGOF.
According to Dise Goddy-Harry, the pollution in the region has impacted negatively on women leading to various health and economic challenges.
The ED of DO Foundation advocates for the immediate clean-up and not the current divestment process approved by the FG for the oil companies.
Other demands made includes holding the IOCs accountable for environmental damage, provide community profit sharing opportunities for host communities, include gas flaring cessation and decommissioning plans in any divestment agreement among others.
