Report By Dim Oba – The Vatican has announced the death of Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, he dies at the age of 95 after resigning in 2013.  According to the Vatican the burial rites for the late Pope will begin in January 5.

In its verified twitter handle, the Vatican said “With sorrow I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Further information will be provided as soon as possible.”

Pope Benedict XVI – The immediate past pope – first in history to resign the Papacy on medical grounds has died at the age of 95. He led the Catholic Church for less than eight years until, in 2013, he became the first Pope to resign since Gregory XII in 1415.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. In 2010 he became the first Pope to visit the Abbey in its thousand-year history when he attended a service and prayed at the Shrine of St Edward the Confessor during his State Visit to the UK.

Ben Murray-Bruce, a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria said “the death of Pope Benedict XVI saddens me. It hurts me as a human and also as a catholic that I am.

He prayed for the family of Pope Benedict XVI and the catholic church worldwide at this moment. May his soul rest in peace.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election joins the Catholics to mourn the late Pope.

In a tweet, Peter Obi wrote, “Farewell Pope Emeritus, Pope Benedict XVI. Over the years, Pope Benedict remained a real shepherd of God’s people. He left indelible historical marks. His service to God and to humanity as a Priest, Archbishop, Cardinal and Pope bore eloquent witness to his genuine love for God.

“The death of Pope Benedict XVI made history”, he remarks.

In a letter signed by Bishop Robert Barron said “Friends, Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger, was one of the most consequential theologians of the 20th and 21st centuries. His impact on the Church will be remembered long after today.”

According to source, in 2022, both a former British Monarch and a former Pope died – we lost Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Benedict XVI. Last time this happened was 1830, when King George IV and Pope Pius VIII both died.

Michael Knowles acknowledged that Pope Benedict XVI is responsible for permitting, after decades of suppression, the Traditional Latin Mass, which is in turn responsible for the conversion and reversion of countless young Catholics. For that act alone the man is a giant.
