TOPIC: FAITH FOR THE JOURNEY (IV)

Fire Scripture: Matthew 8:5-10

In our discourse yesterday, we emphasised that God has special promises for those who exercise faith and indeed rewards acts of faith. We identified answer to prayer and sonship as two benefits or rewards of faith. Let us examine more of these benefits today. Another benefit you stand to gain for exercising faith in God is spiritual inheritance.

James 2:5 confirms this: “Hearken my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?” Faith earns you spiritual inheritance: the Living Water, eternal life, keys of the Kingdom, etc.

Also, by exercising faith in God, you receive power from Him. This promise is firmly established in God’s unfailing word. In John 14:12, Jesus gave every believer this assurance: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

Similarly, Colossians 1:23 enjoins believers to “continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven…” God’s promise of power never fails! The blessings of faith to those who exercise it genuinely cannot be overemphasised. God has promised to give spiritual rest (Hebrews 4:3) to those who demonstrate genuine faith in Him.

The Israelites left Egypt by God’s dramatic deliverance, but many of them perished in the wilderness because of lack of faith. Only those who had faith entered into God’s rest. He also promised them spiritual foundation (1 Peter 2:6) and spiritual assurance (1 John 5:14). I encourage you to make faith your steady companion this year. Faith is a game changer.

You need it for a turnaround experience in all areas of your life. You need it for personal, corporate and national revival. You need it to make heaven and reign with Christ. In all your getting this year, get mountain-moving faith!
