A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Steve Sinikiem Azaiki, has underscored the need for members of the party to see its bouncing back to power in Bayelsa State, as an opportunity to reposition itself for service delivery to Bayelsans.
To achieve that, there was dire need for unity of purpose among members of the party, Prof. Azaiki stressed.

“Politics is a game of unity. The way things are, we need to unite as one. Congress is a ritual, not a new thing. We need to show strength to the other parties. Let other areas also know that our area is united for the PDP. I have said the same thing to members of the House of Assembly from the entire Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Areas, when I meet with them in my house here before meeting with you people now”, Prof. Azaiki admonished stakeholders of the party from Epie/Atissa during a meeting at his residence in Yenagoa, Capital of Bayelsa State.

He stated that with the divine return of the PDP to the governorship position of the state, its members should be concerned more about how to join hands with Senator Douye Diri government to move the state forward.

“The dramatic turn of events that brought Senator Douye Diri and Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to power, as governor and deputy governor of Bayelsa, respectively, re-affirms God’s role in making leaders”, Prof. Azaiki noted, urging Bayelsans and members of opposition parties to accept the governor’s peace deal and bring their ideas to the table for inclusive approach to governance of the state which desires more progress.

He added that the verdict of the Supreme Court that brought Governor Diri to power, February 14, 2020 and subsequent dismissal of the unwarranted appeal against that judgement, handed down February 26, 2020, is the element of destiny and luck characteristic of Diri’s life, hence a signal to quality service for Bayelsans.

Azaiki expressed hope that Senator Diri has the abilities to govern the state to improve on what the PDP has done since 1999, and called on all Bayelsans to support the governor to quickly provide the basic and major infrastructural needs.

In their comments at the stakeholder meeting held at Prof. Azaiki’s Yenagoa residence, a day ahead of the party’s ward congresses, Hon. Oforji Oboku, stressed the relevance of the congress for the success of the party, emphasizing that it was the foundation for other congresses up to the national convention of the party.

In their separate speeches, a former Principal Executive Secretary in Bayelsa State Government House, Mr. Markson Fefgha and a topnotch of the PDP in the area, Chief Victor Awala called for service to the party and a reward system which recognizes the efforts of members who work for the victory of the party.

In a statement on behalf of women, a former adviser on gender and the girl child in the immediate past administration in the state, Mrs. Pulu Zifawei, demanded that the female folk should always be considered for political positons, as they work hard at all times for the success of the PDP.
