A UN recognized road safety consultant and pastor, Dr Yusuf John Suberu has charged Nigerians to elect credible and road safety concious politicians into elective offices in the forth-coming general elections in the county.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja, Dr Yusuf said road safety policies are swept under the carpet by politicians leading to several death and injuries on the road.

According to the clergyman, everyday there are several cases of unreported stories of varying degree of road accident leading to death and injuries on Nigerian roads saying that it is as result of proper implementation of policies or its absence.

Dr Yusuf, who is also the Vice President of the Collation of Road Safety NGOs of Nigeria noted that political leaders should be held accountable for the lack of policies noting that road safety matters should be included in their manifesto.

In his words “Politicians should not concentrating on building roads to score political point but be consider how the roads are used.

“Despite, the number of roads in some major cities in the country, traffic congestion has become a menace. This is a fallout from vehicle breakdown on the middle of the road due to poor inspection and certification by relevant authorities.

“As we prepare for the next election, it is important for Nigerians, to look at for politicians who are concern with safety of lives on the road. A leader that will take these issues seriously and provide cutting-edge solutions”, Dr Yusuf emphasized.
