
Bayelsa Table Tennis Association Chairman Harps On Importance of Table Tennis
By Jide Dominic – The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association, BSTTA, Ama-Ebi Stow has reiterated the need to attach greater importance to the game of table tennis to enhance the quality of the game and for the purpose of winning laurels for the state in the National Sports Festival in the country.
Ama-Ebi Stow who stated this in view of the forthcoming Ist Douye Diri Top-16 National Table Tennis Championship slated to hold on 30th Nov and Ist Dec, 2025 in Yenagoa.
According to him, the championship will go a long way in deepening the skill of Bayelsa youths and other players of game thereby paving the way for their exposure to current intrigues in the game and also improve on their performances in the national sports festival.
The BSTTA Chairman disclosed that the association will host the championship at the Fortress along ox-bow lake road, Yenagoa, urging lovers of the game accross the country to turn up in their numbers for the competition.
He further spoke on the South/South Table Tennis Veterans club championship scheduled to take place from 28th to 29th November, 2025 at the same venue with the aim of gathering together top notch veterans in the game to compete in different categories which will enable them sharpen and broaden thier skills in the game thereby exposing them to current trends in the game globally.
He emphasized that the veterans will come from different states in the South/South geopolitical zone to compete for specific prizes, stressing that it would further enable them as stakeholders in the game to brainstorm on the future and development of the game generally.
The table tennis enthusiasts said medals are available for grabs in two categories which are two golds and two silvers each to be given to the winner from each category, adding that the 1st Douye Diri Top-16 National Table Tennis Championship is also divided into the male and female categories and a gold medal will be given to each winner in the two categories.
He equally revealed that his passion for the game is the driver and primary motivation for the two championships, noting that this has propelled him to sign foreign coaches who are versed in the in the game to offer thier wealth of experience in terms of training and re-training for Bayelsa youths and others for the overall development of the sport.
Ama-Ebi who is also the Technical Assistance to Gov. Douye Diri on Sports Development however expressed gratitude to the governor for the support and encouragement to host the twin competitions in the state.
