Bedford Berefa Charges Niger Delta Stakeholders, ‘Desist From Publicizing Negative Statements Against Leaders’
Stakeholders in the Niger Delta region have been charged to desist from publicizing negative statements about leaders of the region who are holding strategic positions in the country.
National Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Comrade Bedford Berefa gave the charge while speaking to newsmen at a press conference held in Polaku community, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital over calls from some stakeholders in the region for the removal of Engineer Felix Ogbe as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB.
Comrade Berefa noted that the culture of attacking the leaders good name and image for selfish interest must stop as it breeds disunity which hinders the development of the region.
“We must change our strategy, we cannot continue to fight ourselves, ethnic bigotry cannot help us, it is when we come together that we can achieve our purpose”
He emphasized that Engineer Felix Ogbe as the Executive Director of the NCDMB is carrying out the mandate of the board as he has provided the needed training to build local capacity particularly for young people.
“Under the leadership of Felix Ogbe, the need for local content has increased, he has trained over 100 youths, let us allow him to focus and continue his good work”
The IYC Spokesperson commended Engr Felix Ogbe for his service in the NCDMB while calling on him to shun all forms of distractions and continue in his commitment and dedication to ensuring the development of local content in the oil and gas industry.
However, he appealed to youths in the Niger Delta to use their youthful energy and time to get trained and certified in order to prepare them for opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
“Never sell scholarship slots or opportunities for training and workshops, youths should learn so that they can train others, let us focus on self development so that tomorrow we can occupy strategic positions in the country”
Comrade Berefa urged all stakeholders to support Engineer Felix Ogbe and all other leaders in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the Presidential Amnesty Program, PAP as well as other Ijaw leaders for the advancement of the region.
