Celebrating Ogbowei at 70
All is now set as writers, traditional rulers, and others prepare to celebrate one of Nigeria’s foremost literary icons, His Highness G. Ebinyo Ogbowei George.
As part of activities to mark his 70th birthday is the public presentation of two collections of poems, rhythms of reeking rivers and songs for the bard.
The event is slated for Tuesday, 26th August, 2025, and the venue is the Trade Union Congress Secretariat, beside the Bayelsa State Library, behind the old Diamond Bank, now Access Bank, off Sani Abacha Expressway, Amarata.
A statement signed by the secretary of the organising committee, Mr Ebipreye Egbenpere, invites members of the pen, the entire literary community, and the general public to come together to celebrate the Literary icon.
The statement revealed that the programme is divided into two sessions – a morning session that features reading by members of the literary community, quiz, performances, etc., while the afternoon session, which is the main event, features lecture, book review, unveiling of the book, and book signing.
According to the statement, all logistics arrangements have been concluded. It asked members and friends of the celebrant coming from outside the state, to check on its platform for the list of hotels and their charges.
It, therefore, called on all charged with various responsibilities to put in their best to make the event a remarkable success.
Signed:
Ebipreye Egbenpere,
Secretary,
Organizing committee.
