CS-SUNN Partners with Traditional Rulers for Exclusive Breastfeeding

The Civil Society Scaling up Nutrition in Nigeria, CS-SUNN Bayelsa State chapter has called on the traditional rulers and people of Ekeki community to encourage their women to engage in exclusive breastfeeding.

Coordinator, CS-SUNN Bayelsa State, Mrs Ekinabhari Unity Ototo made the call when members of the organization paid a courtesy call on the traditional chief and council of chiefs of Ekeki community.

Mrs Ototo noted that the essence of the visit was part of the organization’s advocacy to stakeholders to get their support on the need and importance of breastfeeding children for the first six months of life.

“CS-SUNN is civil society to scale up nutrition for children and adults inorder to prevent malnutrition especially in children. We urge traditional rulers to use their roles to encourage and speak to women in the community to breastfeed their young children for six months without adding water”

While speaking on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, she pointed out that children who are well breastfed are usually stronger and more intelligent adding that it also helps parents to reduce funds spent on buying canned milk products which are not very healthy for babies.

In his response, His Royal Highness, Alia Neze, Paramount Ruler of Ekeki community, commended CS-SUNN for the visit and enlightenment on exclusive breastfeeding.

HRH Alia Neze gave assurance that the information and sensitization on exclusive breastfeeding would be given to the women of the community for the wellbeing of mothers and their children.

“Many of our problems are caused by ignorance, we are grateful that you have enlightened us more on what we know. This message will be delivered to our people because it is about life and health, we are going to take it seriously.”
