INSIGHT | David Jeremiah Daily Devotional Thursday 15 August 2024 | Mystery Revealed

God promised to bless “all the families of the earth” through Abraham (Genesis 12:3). Gentiles would be blessed along with Jews; the Messiah would be “a light to the Gentiles” (Isaiah 49:6). And when the Jewish elder Simeon saw the baby Jesus, he recognized Him as “a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles” (Luke 2:32). So when Jesus described Himself as “the light of the world” (John 8:12), it should have been immediately understood by Jewish leaders. But it was not. The Jews did not see the Gentiles as fellow heirs of God’s blessings promised to Abraham.

But by the grace given to Paul, he made this mystery known: Gentiles are fellow heirs and partakers of God’s blessing through Christ (Ephesians 3:2-6). There were clues to this revelation in the Old Testament, but Jewish leaders did not have eyes to see what God purposed to do through Christ and His Gospel. Thanks be to God; this truth is no longer a mystery—the Gospel is for everyone!

Founder and host of Turning Point for God and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, David Paul Jeremiah, was born February 13, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio. He is one of four children born to James and Ruby Jeremiah. During his childhood, his family moved to Dayton, Ohio, where his father, James T. Jeremiah, served as Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 1953, the Jeremiah family moved to Cedarville, Ohio, when his father became the President of Cedarville College—which is now Cedarville University.

Growing up in a pastor’s home, David was immersed in ministry from an early age. During his senior year at Cedarville College, he felt God’s calling to enter full-time ministry. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963, and that same year he married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson. After graduation, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where David attended Dallas Theological Seminary. He received his Master’s degree in Theology in 1967. Completing additional graduate work at Grace Seminary, he was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.[/box]
