Governor Douye Diri Breaking The Jinx of Second Tenure in Bayelsa Politics
Solomon Olali-Igabo, a public affairs analyst and journalist writes on Governor Douye Diri Breaking The Jinx of Second Tenure in Bayelsa Politics
Onetime President of the United States of America, Andrew Jackson said, “The Bible is the rock on which our Republic rests”. “America must acknowledge her dependence upon God if she is to maintain her independence in a world where true freedom is becoming a lost commodity. Our faith, our hope must be in God, for safety is from the Lord”.
Thus, Governor Douye Diri is a believer of the word of God. “Some trust in chariots, some in horses, but we will remember the Lord our God” Psalm 20:7.
The governor dedicated his recent Supreme Court victory to God and the people of Bayelsa State was a step in the right direction. The expectation of the righteous shall not be cut off! He with God is majority!!
Politically, a lot has happened in Bayelsa State since the democratic dispensation in 1999 to date. The first democratically elected governor of the state Late Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha of blessed memory was disgraced out of office and could not complete his second tenure as governor of Bayelsa State. The rest has become history.
Chief Timipre Sylva become the second democratically elected governor in 2007 and stayed until 2012 when he failed to regain his second tenure elongation at the Supreme Court judgment.
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson was elected as the third democratically elected governor of the state on the 14th of February, 2012 as was called the Valentine Governor. Senator Henry Dickson was the first to break the jinx of second tenure where no governor could able to complete his tenure since the creation of Bayelsa State in 1996.
Senator Henry Dickson was the most hated, yet he overcame all odds and challenges at the time and successfully handed over mantle of leadership to Senator Douye Diri in 2020 who eventually become the miracle governor by the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which annulled the candidature of the running mate to the governorship candidate of the All Progress Congress.
In fact, it has not been easy drive when Governor Douye Diri re-contested and won in 2024. He went through the tribunal to Appeal and finally at the Supreme Court of the land, where justice has finally decided in his favour. According to Late Nelson Mandela of South Africa, “there is no easy walk to freedom”.
By this victory or judgement, Governor Douye Diri has become the second Governor to have broken the jinx of second tenure in Bayelsa State.
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and Governor Douye Diri are covenant practitioners who covenanted the State to God where every 1st of November is been declared as Bayelsa Thanksgiving Day being passed into law by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
Indeed, the benefits of prayers and thanksgiving has been speaking for the duo of Senators Dickson and Douye Diri. Their source of victory and power is from God.
Douye Diri is indeed a miracle governor and it has been speaking for him because he knows his onions and that his help come from above and nowhere else.
In God we trust! Governor Douye Diri’s unwavering commitment and service to God is evident in his disposition. Some trust in Chariots and others have trust in horses but Douye Diri have trust in the name of the Lord.
