A group under the aegis of Ijaw Patriotic Movement, (IPM) has commended the efforts of Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tombolo who is the chairman of Tantita Security Company over his remarkable role in the agitation for the economic freedom and overall development of the Niger Delta region.
Speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, the National President of IPM, Comrade Ganren Mislaw noted that the group focuses mainly on the advancement of the sociol-cultural heritage of Ijaw nation and in view of this, the positive impact that Government Ekpemupolo has contributed towards the social, economic and cultural development of not only Ijaw nation but the Niger Delta region as a whole cannot be over- emphasized.
Ganren further noted that since the Arthur Richards constitution of 1946, the Ijaw nation has been under socio-economic marginalisation as they have been under the Ibos and Yorubas until 1993 when the Ijaw National Congress came on board to salvage the Ijaw people from the clutches of oppression and economic slavery.
According to him, quite a number of notable Ijaw sons and daughters both dead and alive had taken up the fight for social justice and economic emancipation of Ijaws being the fourth largest ethnic nationality in the country and also the giant of Ijaw nation.
He harps on the role Government Ekpemupolo played in the agitation for the rights of the Ijaw people which gained wide-spread attention, including the international community, adding that the freedom fighter contributed to the bridging of socio- political inequality, particularly in Delta state where he hails from.
The IPM further reiterated that the efforts of Government Ekpemupolo gave birth to the Presidential Amnesty Program, (PAP) in 2009 which has been a national platform for a vigorous shift from militancy in the Niger Delta region to the pursuance of peace and progress, stressing that the Ijaw hero has also interfaced with President Bola Tinubu to ensure that Ijaws participate actively in oil business globally
In his words ” More than 7,000 Ijaw youths are currently working with Tantita Security Company which has afforded them the opportunity to be useful to themselves and equally exposed them to oil business”
He however urged the freedom fighter to continue to maintain the tempo, adding that his tangible positive contributions in the Ijaw nation are visible for everyone to see.
