The National Representative Council (NRC) is the legislative arm of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and serves as a check on the National Executive Committee.

Ijaw Elders from Central zone, made up of Bayelsà and some clan leadership from Rivers State, in a statement issued at the weekend passes vote of confidence on the performance of three principal officers of the NRC who are contesting in the forthcoming election to elect new National Executive Members of Congress.

The decision was reached at a well attended interactive session with His Royalty, Dr Anyanate Kio, who is the Leader of the House, Princess Joyce Adesola Ebiseni, the Deputy Leader, and Elder Gabriel Pinssidor Benamaisia who is the Clerk of the House.

Members of the Central Zone expressed satisfaction with the leadership qualities, commitment, and track record of the trio.

The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by High Chief Oyinkuro Bekeowei representing Tarakiri Clan, and seconded by Chief Wilson Obi representing Ogbia clan. Following deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the motion, assuring the candidates of maximum votes from the NRC members in the Central zone.

The Leader of the House, His Royalty, Dr Anyanate Kio is contesting for the post of National Secretary, the Deputy Leader, Princess Joyce Adesola Ebiseni is vying for the office of National Women Affairs Secretary, while the Clerk, Elder Gabriel Pinasidor Benamaisia is seeking election as National Auditor.

Central zone members of Council noted that throughout their tenure, the trio worked harmoniously with representatives across the three zones-Central, Eastern and Western- demonstrating inclusiveness, unity of purpose, and deep respect for Zonal balance within the Congress.

Their leadership style, it was observed, has strengthened collaboration and mutual trust among members irrespective of their zones.

Consequently, the Central zone NRC warmly appeals to members of the Eastern and Western zones to follow the example of the Central zone by supporting the trio in the forthcoming election.

The Council emphasized that their collective experience and cross-zonal working relationship position them as bridge-builders capable of fostering unity, and progress across the entire Ijaw Nation.

The Central zone NRC reiterated that this endorsement is not merely political but rooted in performance, loyalty, and proven commitment to the ideals, and aspirations of the Ijaw people.

As the Congress prepares for the election of New National Executive Members, the Central zone of the NRC calls for solidarity across all zones to ensure the emergence of Leaders who will sustain unity, accountability, and purposeful leadership within the Congress.
