In a remarkable step towards restoring and revitalizing sports infrastructure in the Niger Delta region as part of Niger Delta Development Commission’s preparations for the first ever NDDC Sports Festival in April this year.
Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku, will had the honour of joining our dynamic and reform oriented President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, other NDDC team, alongside the Governors, Sports Minister, the Sports Commissioners and other esteemed dignitaries on a profound event bill to launch its maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival.
The event underscored Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku’s unwavering commitment to reviving critical youths assets that have suffered years of neglect. In Niger Delta region, Sports was once a hub for sporting excellence, has unfortunately been abandoned for several years, leaving its youths infrastructure in a state of disrepair.
However, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of NDDC has expressed a strong vision to restore and modernize sporting facility in the region, ensuring that it once again serves as a beacon for sports development, promotion, talent discovery, and youth empowerment.
The revitalization of this historic sports festival is not just about youth infrastructure; it aligns with the NDDC’s vision and focused broader agenda to harness the potential of Niger Delta region’s youths, promote sports as a tool for economic growth, and encourage community development.
Once fully revitalize by April this year, the youths will be provided with world-class sporting competition, create job opportunities, and foster a thriving sports culture in the region.
This viable initiative by the Commission is a laudable development to keep the army of youths to identify their potential and build on them for self sustainability.
The event will be held between April 1, and 9, 2025, which will be held at the Chief Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This passion for youths are the nation builder’s initiative by the Commission, aligning with Nigeria’s new vision for sports development and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to foster talent development and innovation in sports can’t be overemphasized.
No doubt that this achievable vision, shall curb crime and criminality and create job opportunity for youths in the region.
This thought provoking vision by the able leadership of the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer had design several youth empowerment programme and still building on them to take youths out of the streets in the region.
The region’s youths have expressed their satisfaction that they are going to channel the energy to this sports festival and continually thankful to the NDDC management team for the brilliant and friendly policy to bring peace in the region. Their profound gratitude to Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku for his vision and dedication in transforming the sporting sector and the entire Niger Delta region. This renewed focus on youth sports infrastructure will undoubtedly pave way for a brighter future for our youths, athletes, and the local economy.
As we look forward to the commencement of the sports festival this year, the people assure NDDCÂ that they remains committed to supporting this sporting project and ensuring that the youths regains its lost glory.
