Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 14 July 2023
The Tabernacle was now completed but other things were needed for real worship to take place. The first was the Ark. This was a box which contained the ten commandments received from God, sample of the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded. Built onto it is the atonement cover (mercy seat) and image of two cherubs. Essentially, the Ark signifies God’s presence among His people. Mention some things that may attract or repel God’s presence in our worship. Thank God for mercy, available because of Christ’s sacrifice.
The lampstand bears the lamps that give light continuously in the tent of meeting. Read Psalm 119:105 to see what that signifies for us today.
The Altar is a place of encounter with God. Apart from the Altar of incense, there is also the Altar of burnt offering (Exodus 27:1-8). Christ has made the full and final offering for us. We only need to surrender to Him. The Altar of incense indicates prayer (Revelation 8:3-4). Altar, therefore, is a place of surrender and supplication.
Anointing oil was used in Scripture for coronation, consecration, and medication (1 Samuel 16:13, 1 Kings 19:16, Luke 10:34). More importantly, it refers to the Holy Spirit (1 John. 2:27) whose presence is essential for true worship.
