“Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.” (Psalm 18: 43)

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ur Focal Scripture speaks of how the psalmist proclaimed that God has delivered him from the strivings of the people. The word ‘striving’ is derived and explained by the Hebrew word ‘riyb’. Another meaning of ‘riyb’ is ‘a legal contest/dispute’. ‘Riyb’ is used in a context that there is something legal that should make one a victim. So the psalmist affirmed that he had been delivered from something legal that could have been used against him.
Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: every legalized captivity that the enemy has erected against you, I command it to scatter by fire. Every proclamation that is already against you and is about to make you a victim, I command it to be reversed. Every policy that was raised to stop you, I command it to be reversed. For every negative consequence that is rightfully against you, let mercy speak on your behalf. For every judgement of men against you, let the sovereignty of God prevail.
Notice that our Focal Scripture is a psalm written by David, when he was delivered from Saul. So it was a legal deliverance from the king and the entire domain. It was a deliverance from an institution that was already skewed against him. Hear me as I hear the Lord: even if the systems and structures of men are already skewed against you, today, I proclaim the deliverance of the Lord upon you. You are delivered from the trap of kings.
Even if all the laws of the land are skewed against you, the deliverance power of God is working in your favour. Even if you are already marked for reduction and extinction, by the word of the Lord, it is reversed. Even if it is by your own fault that you are at the mercy of people who are against you, the Lord sets you free now. Even if you are guilty as charged, let mercy speak in your favour. Let mercy prevail.
No matter the legal conspiracy that is skewed against you, the word of the Lord has delivered you already.
Isaiah 49: 24-25 says: “24. Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? 25. But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.”

Even if I am a lawful captive, I have been set free, in Jesus’ name!
