Timaya: My Personal Opinion and Position in the Issue
Timaya is not a Politician. Nobody campaigned or voted for him to be where he is today.
Young people should be extremely careful the way and manner they go about their activism and activities or try to arrogate non-existent powers to themselves.
Bayelsans especially young people should be happy and grateful too, that we have such a highly placed and respected Worthy Ambassador of the Ijaw Nation who is respected beyond the shores of the Continent of Africa.
While in South Africa some years ago, I usually accompanied my friends to Night Clubs to relax and ease academic pressure and tension.Timaya songs were the hit songs and I know the kind of value, recognition and even reception that I was accorded whenever I told South Africans that I was related to Timaya. Meanwhile, then I didn’t had any close contact with our worthy Ambassador in the Music and Entertainment Industry.
Can the young people who are making noise that Timaya was made by Bayelsans tell us exactly how they contributed to the making of Timaya?
Again, if they have such Powers, why is it that they have not made themselves prominent and popular beyond Bayelsa State and outside youth activism?
We must stop this pull him down syndrome and the act of demarketing our people who are making significant impacts especially those outside politics.
Which image are we trying to build for ourselves and the state in general?
Is it not ridiculous that we are threatening to chase away our Music Icon and Ambassador who want to organize a Free Show for our people to preach and promote Peace, Unity and Progress where many states, cities and organizations are offering huge amounts to host same person that we are trying to undermine and ridicule?
Do the youths who are threatening Timaya own Bayelsa state more than him?
Do we really bother how his family and people from his Local Government Area will feel?
We must stop this rascality and madness that will never bring any good thing or result except shame to our great state.
We have been talking about promoting and harnessing our Tourism potentials. Is this how to achieve the above?
Which signal and message do we think we are trying to send across? If they could threaten Timaya their own brother, then no one is safe in such environment.
No person or group of persons should try to destroy or frustrate the good works that His Excellency, the Miracle and Prosperity Governor is doing to transform, reform and reposition our great state that presently prides herself as the SAFEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY.
Can we imagine or quantify the number of Ijaw people that Timaya has helped and he is still helping daily?
How do we measure help under the present circumstance? At what level or to what extent do we think that he needed to help before we can actually say that he has helped?
How many young people are ready to persevere or pay the prices that Timaya paid to get to his revered position in the midst of our overbloated ego that is worsened by our entitlement mentality?
The earlier we realize that there is no justification for any form of threat and that no one is above the law or is indispensable, the better.
Bayelsa state is not a Banana Republic, neither is it a lawless state or society.
The state government and the various security agencies will not tolerate or condone any act of lawlessness especially at this yuletide and feastive season when many Bayelsans in the Diaspora and visitors shall be coming for the Christmas and New Year feastivities.
There is need for tolerance and good conduct during and after the feastive season. We should all act as agents of change and worthy Ambassadors of our great state, instead of trying to do otherwise.
