The Voice of the Ijaw Girl Child (VIGC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to the empowerment and development of young girls across Ijaw communities, paid a courtesy visit to the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Alfred Kemepade.
The visit was aimed at establishing a collaborative collaboration between the organization and the Ministry to promote skill-building, education, and advocacy programs targeted at the girl child and broader youth population in the state.
Leading the delegation, the Executive Director of VIGC, Mrs Tobi Ebiringa, expressed gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner for granting the audience and went ahead to give a brief breakdown of the organisation, it’s history, purpose, achievements and future plans.
Mrs Tobi explained that The Voice of the Ijaw Girl Child (VIGC) is a grassroots NGO focused on advancing the rights, education, leadership, and empowerment of Ijaw girls. She also stated that despite its name Voice of The Ijaw Girl Child, the boychild isn’t left out as they are also carried along in the programs and empowerments.
Moving forward, Miss Blessing Ewere, The Program Officer of the organisation highlighted the organization’s work in rural communities, and mentioned ways the ministry can collaborate with the organisation.
In response, the Honourable Commissioner commended the efforts of VIGC and emphasized that the state already has laid-down plans for youth empowerment in Bayelsa. He assured the delegation that VIGC will be carried along in implementing the youth policy.
He further noted that collaboration between the Ministry and credible organizations like VIGC is vital to addressing the unique challenges faced by youths, especially girls in underrepresented areas. The Commissioner welcomed the idea of continuous collaboration, stating:
