It is obvious that the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will settle for the incumbent governor, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri but generally Bayelsans are weary of his administration and are frantically searching for a better alternative owing to the Diri led administration’s unpreparedness for governance and inability to develop the state.

The current deplorable state of affairs in the state in every sector tells the story.

People in the state are still pained by the judgment of the Supreme Court against Chief David Lyon. They seem to have sustained this grief and channeled the pains to the anticipated return of Chief David Lyon in 2023.

Bayelsans do not need a soothsayer to reveal that the only candidate in the APC that will bring victory to the party if given the APC governorship ticket is Chief David Lyon.

Public opinions across the length and breadth of Bayelsa State, including those from royal fathers, politicians at all levels, civil societies, market women, and even non-indigenes points in the direction of Chief David Lyon.

It is no news also that the name David Lyon which caused chaos in the PDP in 2019 is still dreaded by the Douye Diri-led PDP government as they still express fears and concern about the overwhelming support Chief David Lyon yet attracts in the state despite the Supreme Court Judgement, and how this support base has continued to grow over the years. This is strongly indicative that only David Lyon as the APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming Bayelsa state governorship elections, stood the chance of unsettling and unseating them.

The love Bayelsans have for Chief David Lyon is overwhelming, as a result of his humble, simple, peaceful, and generous nature and the APC ought to look in no other direction but to the only man that has ever contested the Governorship election in Bayelsa state against a ruling party and won in six LGAs with a very wide margin and anything short of this will result in the death of the party as well as the huge loss of a golden opportunity for the APC to effortlessly seize power from the PDP in Bayelsa State.

APC members who have laboured tirelessly in the state, with or without reward have all resolved to settle for Chief David Lyon alone.

This is therefore a call on the national APC leadership to conduct their independent assessment to verify these claims and take a decision that will justify the efforts and sacrifices of multitudes of APC supporters in the state who have stood with the party through thick and thin and who possess the capacity to reproduce and exceed the victory of 2019.
