2024 Prosperity Cup Finals: Governor Diri Thanks Participants, Supporters, Ogboinbiri wins title, gets N5m
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State graced the final of the 6th edition of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup tagged ‘The Prosperity Cup.’
In the men’s star final, Ogboin FC of Ogboinbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government defeated Nembe City FC 3 nil to lift the title with a prize money of N5 million.
The Nembe team went home with the sum of N2.5mln while the 3rd placed team, Bayelsa Feeders received N1.5mln.
In the women’s version, NDU Queens edged Peremor Soccer Academy by one goal to nothing to emerge champions.
The female winner walked away with the 1Million Naira prize money, while the 2nd place winners got 750 thousand Naira.
Governor Diri thanked everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure the competition was a success, and also appreciated guests and supporters who made the day colourful.
Governor Diri said his administration would continue to invest in sports to engage youths of the State.
“Today for the very first time in the history of this competition, we have the very honoured presence of the Honourable Minister of Sports of the Federation.
One thing that is obvious here today is the display of raw talents of the Youths of Bayelsa, from the girls to the boys, and there can be nothing better than this.
As a government, we will continue to spur you, encourage you and support you to bring out your best talents to become world stars.
Let me appreciate our very talented Youths of Bayelsa, the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Ono Akpe and everyone that worked tirelessly to make this tournament a success.
This competition drastically reduced the crime rate of the State, as the competition was duly conducted in the grassroot.
I thank all the over 200 teams that participated, and everyone here that came out to support the process”, the Governor said.
The Special Guest and Honorable Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, had the honour of taking the kickoff, marking the official start of the game at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
In attendance also was the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the Governor of Edo State ably represented by the Sports Commissioner of Edo State, Yusuf Alli, the Managing Director/CEO of Premium Trust Bank, Emmanuel Emefienim, serving and non-serving legislators, State Executive Council Members, other political appointees, captains of industries, and numerous fans on all sides.
