Be Cautious, HIV is Fast Spreading in Bayelsa, Says Dr Temple Iluma
As the world marks the 2024 World AIDS day, Bayelsans have been advised to be cautious as HIV is fast spreading in Bayelsa state particularly in the communities within the local government areas.
Director General of the Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of AIDS, BYSACA, Dr Ramoni Temple Iluma gave the advice while speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
Dr Iluma explained that currently HIV is a silent and number killer of many young and old people adding that many have lost their lives to AIDS related illnesses while many others are living in denial with the disease.
He also disclosed that sexual activities still remains the highest means of transmitting the disease hence the need for all to be cautious and reduce the number of their sexual partners.
The DG BYSACA called on all residents of the state to regularly check their HIV status, reiterating that HIV test is free as he also said that the state now has the Pre exposure prophylaxis, Prep for HIV prevention as well as Antiretrovirals for People Living With HIV.
However, he urged residents of the state to desist from stigmatizing and discriminating people living with the disease.
