The Nigerian Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima has lauded the developmental strides that the Prosperity administration under the leadership of Gov. Douye Diri has recorded in the last five years of being at the helm of affairs of Bayelsa State.
The Vice President who stated this during the thanksgiving programme organized by the state government to thank God for the management and development of the state also noted that the state’s Gross Domestic Product ( GDP) is the second largest in the country, stressing that President Bola Tinubu is desirous of ensuring that investment opportunities are brought into the state to open it up more for concrete and sustainable development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima who was represented by one of his Special Advisers, Dr. Tope Fashipe further opined that the state is quiet strategic largely because of the huge oil and gas resources in the state.
The guest Speaker at the event, Dr. Mensa Otabil stressed that the geographical location and the riverine nature of the state made it a land of blessings and fruitfulness, pointing out that Africa is one of the richest continents in the world, especially considering the natural and human resources that abound in the continent.
Dr. Mensa Otabil further asserted that despite the rich and abundant resources in the continent, it’s people are still poor, stressing that the key factor for sustainable development in any part of the world is wisdom and not leaders as being peddled by keen observers of the development index of continent.
The Guest Speaker who is the founder and General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church, Accra , Ghana said the last five years of Gov Douye Diri’s administration has witnessed tangible transformation which was possible primarily through the wisdom that the Governor has brought to bear in the task of moving the state forward, noting that African Christians must embrace wisdom for not only thier own good but the society as a whole.
In his word ” Countries all over the world can only develop through wisdom which comes only from God, emphasizing that Dubai attained the status of a developed city through wisdom”.
“Ignorance is a key factor hindering socio -economic growth even at the personal level but wisdom is a multidimensional ingredient for true and sustainable transformation. “Thanksgiving as being done by the state today is wisdom and would lead to concrete development in the long run”.
In his goodwill message, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District at the upper Chamber, Senator Kombowei Benson noted that Gov. Douye Diri has done well particularly when viewed against the backdrop of the construction of road to Southern Ijaw local government area of the state despite the riverine and difficult terrain of the state, adding that the people of the local government area will continue to stand by the governor in his task of taking the state to the next level of development.

While giving his address Gov. Douye Diri emphasized the importance of thanksgiving which is to hand over the state to God, adding that such move is the surest way to achieve all round development.
Dignitaries present at the event include the Governor of Plateau state,Caleb Mutfwang, Dr. Mrs Patience Jonathan, wife of the first civilian governor of the state, Mrs Margret Alamieyeseigha and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission among others.
