A Very Dirty Christmas: Lizzy Pereowei Urges Ini Edo to Rethink Movie Title
Nigerian social media commentator, Lizzy Pereowei, has written an open letter to Nollywood star Ini Edo, expressing concern over the title of her upcoming movie, A Very Dirty Christmas.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Pereowei addressed the actress directly, writing:
“Dear Ma’am Ini Edo, I hope this meets you well! Trust our little Angel is doing great! I don’t mean any harm by what I’m about to bring to your attention, so please, by all means, don’t take it the wrong way!”
She explained that while fans are excited about the December 2025 cinema release of A Very Dirty Christmas, the title could send a wrong message. According to her, the word “Christmas” is sacred and should not appear alongside “dirty.”
Pereowei added that when she first read the title, she mistakenly thought of the popular Nigerian phrase “Detty December,” often used to describe the party-filled festive season. However, upon realizing the actual movie title, she began to question its deeper meaning.
“How can Christmas be dirty?” she asked. “I’m not sure other religions would tag their festive seasons alongside the word ‘dirty’. Why then should we? JESUS CHRIST is the reason for the season and He’s not dirty, neither is Christmas.”
Pereowei emphasized that her message to Ini Edo came from a place of love and spiritual sensitivity, not criticism. She urged the actress to consider modifying the movie title to better reflect the values of the season.
“Please, for the love of God, can we not in the name of cruise and vibe forget the essence of the season ahead?” she pleaded. “I’d suggest that it’s not too late to make corrections if deemed necessary. This is just my humble opinion, ma’am.”
Since Ini Edo announced A Very Dirty Christmas on her Instagram page, fans have expressed both excitement and curiosity about the storyline. The film, which is expected to hit cinemas in December 2025, promises to blend humor, culture, and festive spirit — though its title has already sparked spirited online debates about faith and creativity.
While Ini Edo is yet to respond publicly, Pereowei’s open letter has amplified public discourse on how artistic expression and religious reverence can coexist in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
As conversations continue, A Very Dirty Christmas remains one of the most talked-about Nollywood projects set for the festive season.
