Address Environmental Injustice in Niger Delta, Starrz Safety Initiative tells President Tinubu
Starrz Safety Initiative, a Non-government organization based in Yenagoa tells President Bola Tinubu to immediately address all social and environmental injustice in the Niger Delta region.
Mrs Mary Accrah Bekeowei, Executive Director of Starrz Safety Initiative stated this when she spoke with Reflector TV reporter during a peaceful protest organized by a coalition of organizations led by Social Action, and The Bayelsa Non Governmental Organizations Forum, BANGOF in Yenagoa.
She emphasized that before any form of divestment process to be undertaken by any oil companies, issues arising from environmental injustice should be properly addressed by the government.
The ED of Starrz Safety Initiative called for an inclusive and transparent consultation with state governments and affected communities of the sites of oil and gas extraction in the Niger Delta region before any further divestment of IOC assets.
The groups and youths who embarked on a road walk carrying placards expressed their grievances over the oil companies divestment in its current form without addressing the social and environmental injustice to the people of the Niger Delta region.
