AIG Adenola who made this assertion when members of the United Correspondents Chapel, (UCC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Yenagoa further noted that policing the two states cannot be done without a robust and strategic partnership with the media.
This informed the reason why AIG Adenola commended members of UCC for expressing thier readiness to collaborate with the police with a view to achieving a crime-free society as a whole.
The AIG emphasized that the media plays a critical role in crime prevention primarily because of the fact that they are the known as the custodian of critical information which the police needs to enable them go after criminals thereby reducing crime and criminality to the bearest minimum, stressing that all inclusive policing is highly essential for adequate security of lives and property.
Earlier, the chairman of UCC, Comrade Amgbare Ekakumo noted that the courtesy visit was aimed at deepening and strengthening the already working relationship between the media and the police in the fight against crime for the overall benefits of mankind.
According to him, ” journalists are constitutionally entrusted with the responsibility of informing, educating and enlightening the public through adequate and timely dissemination of news”, adding that security and crime free society is a collective responsibility that transcends law enforcement agencies and the undeniable link between the media and the police needs to be consciously upheld for the overall development of the society.
