Akenfa Monday Market Witnesses Low Turnout of Traders, Buyers
The traditional Monday Market at Akenfa, a prominent Epie-speaking community in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State witnesses a low turnout of traders including buyers compared to last week in the month of October.
A Reflector TV Street correspondent who observed markets in Bayelsa State since the increase in pump price of petrol says traders complained on the hike of goods especially consumable.
According to Miss Ngozi, who spoke with our correspondent said most traders are unable to afford new stock due to the increase in prices after the last market day.
She said, “I just dey come back from where I dey carry groundnut oil, I no fit carry because last week, I carry am for N4,000.00 but dem dey tell me N7,000.00 this week, when I no fit see gain from the last ones .
“To sell those last goods na war o because people no gree buy, so na where I go get money buy new one when don increase’, Miss Ngozi lamented.
Miss Ngozi, operates a make-shift store along the road in the new Akenfa Market has been trading there for the last three years every Monday explained that she had never experienced this kind of low turnout and poor sales.
The mother of three children who sells on foodstuffs expressed optimism that as the day goes things would go better and more traders will come in.
Afenfa Market holds every Monday and traders from neighbouring communities come with their goods to sell in wholesale for buyers.
