ALGON Stage Peaceful Protest to INEC Office in Rivers State

Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON in Rivers State have stage a peaceful protest to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC alleging that the continuos registration process in the state was too slow.

All the local government chairmen in Rivers State said the insufficient machines being used for the exercise was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise some eligible voters in the state.

The twenty three local government chairmen in Rivers State led by its ALGON Chairman who is also the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Mr Allwell Ihunda noted that every attempt to stop eligible voters from being registered would be resisted.

Mr Ihunda further noted that they are prepared to provide logistics to support the exercise and ensure security for INEC officials.

In his response, State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Eboh Efanga said there is a high level of misinformation and ignorance of the process.

He emphasized that political leaders should know better adding that the chairmen should go through the information provided by INEC when the whole process started.
