Bayelsa Assembly Scales 2026 Appropriation Bill Second Reading
The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill through its second reading, with lawmakers commending Governor Douye Diri for sustaining major infrastructural projects and prioritizing key sectors of development.
Leading the debate, the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Monday-Bubou Edwin Obolo, described the budget as realistic, achievable, and reflective of the state’s economic ambitions. He noted that Bayelsa’s growing potential for steady power supply—boosted by ongoing energy investments—has continued to attract both local and international partners.
Legislators applauded the government for allocating about 65% of the budget to capital expenditure, emphasizing that the focus on infrastructure demonstrates strong commitment to long-term growth. They highlighted ongoing signature projects such as the Three Senatorial Roads, the 60MW Gas Turbine, the 9-storey Secretariat Complex, and the 25,000-capacity Stadium.
Contributions from Hon. Michael Ogbere, Hon. Dr. Daniel Charles, Hon. Bernard Kenebai, and Hon. (Barr.) Tare Porri underscored the bill’s emphasis on agriculture, community development, and security—areas they described as vital to the state’s prosperity.
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, with a report expected within two weeks.
The Assembly noted that the bill’s smooth progression marks another significant step in advancing Governor Diri’s Prosperity Assured agenda and accelerating development across Bayelsa State.
