
Bayelsa Cares Holds Workshop on Gender Based Violence
Bayelsa state Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, BY-CARES workshop, with its theme, “Gender Based Violence/Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/sexual harassment training calls for peaceful resolution on the program in Bayelsa state
Technical head of the Coordinating Units of Bayelsa state Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, BY-CARES, Mrs Peremoboere Soroh says the objective of training safeguard and Operational officers from all delivery Platforms is to technically equip staff towards actualising effective implementation of the two point zero program, soon to commence in the state.
Mrs, Soroh who is also a Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Budget and Economic planning stated this at a two-day step-down training, organized by BY-CARES in collaboration with her ministry on its theme “Gender Based Violence, GBV ” at Tamara hall, Otiotio, yenagoa, reiterating that the training will align them with their counterparts in other states and create awareness on equality in the Gender Base Violence, GBV, reporting and recording of authenticated experience especially regarding sexual Harassment and uniformity among staff carrying out assignments.
She explained further that mistakes of the past program taken for granted would not be tolerated as two point Zero defaulting States will be penalized, thereby urged all to improve on quality reporting, knowing the process, and support to strengthen capacity of the GBV officers and ensure timely submission of their reports.
The Technical head of state Coordinating Unit of BY-CARES, Mrs Soroh noted that social protection issues will be amicably handled this time and not put under the carpet while encouraging all participants to be serious to have a broader knowledge of the program for reportage, also classification of the various GBVs to bring out the best in carrying out official duties to successfully implement the program.
In her paper presentation, entitled “Gender Sensitivity, Budgeting in Ng-Cares program, State Project Coordinator, SPC, of Result Area 2 Fadama, Mrs Judith Asene-koroye called for an all inclusive percentage for women in order to diversify their living standard and management of the homefront.
SPC Asene-Koroye appealed for traditional and politicians to support women as well as create policies that will favour and empower them, she narrated how Rwanda National Assembly supported and approved Sixty five percent women participation which has given room for a great level of development in that country.
Mrs Asene-koroye also stressed that, gender equality is an integral part of this program to reduce poverty, hence women should be at the forefront of developing society.
According to SPC Asene- Koroye, its achievable through the budgeting process of the program as already in the state 50 percent has been accepted for women to effectively contribute in the diversification of the growth of the economy through the BY- CARES program, thereby called on women to avail themselves for the Two point zero program.
Also presented papers were Perekibina Okiakpe, of Bymedia on Understanding Sex and Gender, Confidence David B. From Community and Social Development Agent, CSDA on Review of world Bank GBV/ SEA/ SJ Guidelines and Protocol, and Oge Dogubo , CSDA on fundamentals and Social issues on GBV as well as Survior-Centred Approach in The GBV etc program.
Others were Fadama results Area 2 Grievance Redress Mechanism officer Mrs Collins Kumoere Itimi on Cares Grievance Redress Procedure and community Development and Gender officer mr Pius Itimi also from Fadama took the toplcs on GBV/ SEA/ SH Risk, factors in the implementation of Ngcares and on reporting channels.
The Bayelsa state Care Coordinating Unit member in change of Management of Information System, Mr Moses Shopware coordinated two sketch drama presentations to demonstrate and enlightened staff on the proper method in handling GBV survivors, such as documentation, how to treat or speak to survivors among others.
Highpoints were discussions and adoption of the Ngcares GBV/SE A/ SH Generic COC, with its objective to regulate staff behavior and promote workplace ethics thereby engendering harmonious office environment devoid of unethical conducts.
The Step-Down training was attended by SCCU Planning officer Moses Obosu, Safeguard and operational officer, across results Area 1, CSDA. Fadama Results Area 2 Fadama and ra3 Bymedia.
