Buhari Adviser Calls on National Assembly for Amendment of PIB
Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Ita Enang calls on all stakeholders in the National Assembly to take advantage of the proposed amendment to the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA to change the controversial issues on Host Communities Development Fund and the Frontiers Basin Exploration Trust Fund.
Mr Enang explained that members could propose an amendment that could be consolidated with those proposed by President Buhari.
President Buhari had earlier written to the National Assembly seeking an amendment of the PIA on the administrative part of the law.
The PIA which was assented to by the President on August 16 was passed by the National Assembly under controversy circumstances in both chambers of the assembly in July.
Mr Enang said persons who are dissatisfied with the Act could seek amendment using the window of the amendment proposed by the President.
However, he noted that the National Assembly should be blamed for the controversial Frontier Basin Exploration Trust Fund and not the president adding that the president proposed 10% of the mining license and mining lease for the fund but the National Assembly decided to use oil theft of the NNPC instead.
