Centre LSD Embarks on the Development of Kaduna South Local Government Council’s OGP Local Action Plan
In furtherance with its commitment to onboard Local Government Areas unto the Open Government Partnership (OGP), the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) under its project “Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the governance process through the implementation of Open Government Partnership in Nigeria”, will on Thursday 2nd October 2025 commence a two-day workshop for Kaduna South Local Government Council for the development of Open Government Partnership (OGP) Local Action Plan (LAP).
A statement by the Programme Coordinator at Centre LSD, Mr. Lawal Amodu, states that “the Council is the first outside the FCT Area Councils that Centre LSD is engaging with under its OGP programming”. He said the two-day event is expected to produce a two-year plan that will guide the Council in the implementation of Open Governance principles. He noted that the development of an action plan will show in greater details how the Council will achieve its OGP objectives.
Centre LSD’s engagements with the local councils had focused on the FCT Area Councils amongst which four – Abaji, AMAC, Gwagwalada and Kwali have been on boarded to the OGP. These efforts and results are paving the way for more local government Councils to join the OGP space and providing the Centre with opportunities of deepening its engagement on transparency and accountability in governance processes at the subnational level.
Kaduna South Local Council is set to define its OGP Local Action Plan parameters for implementation over the next two years. The objective of signing up to the OGP is to make the governance process open, transparent, accountable and make citizens not only a central part of it but also the ultimate beneficiary of the processes.
Members of the public who may not be on site at the event, are encouraged to engage the project using the Hashtag #OGPOpenNigeria on all Centre LSD’s social media platforms: Facebook: @centrelsd, Instagram: @centrelsd, and Twitter: @centrelsd
