
CENTRE LSD HOLDS AN INTERFACE MEETING WITH STAKEHOLDERS ON THE OGONI CLEAN-UP
The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development, (Centre LSD), shall Wednesday October 28, 2020 host stakeholders to an interface meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to further its engagement with stakeholders on the Ogoni Clean-up.
In a statement released by the Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, Amodu Lawal, the interface meeting has become important to deliberately keep afloat the passion of communities in engaging relevant government actors in the clean-up process.
According to him, “the event will be used to harness ideas and input on how to gain mileage on the remediation efforts”.
The interface meeting which will have members of the Interrelationship Committee ( an outcome of Centre LSD engagement with traditional rulers), traditional rulers, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), National Oil Spill Detection and Regulatory Agency (NOSDRA), Cordaid Strategic Partners and other Civil Society members in attendance.
They shall review the draw backs in the process and brainstorm on how best to address them by leveraging on stakeholders strength in a way that will ultimately deepen their involvement in the process by way of monitoring, especially now that HYPREP has commenced the handle over of cleaned sites to government.
He enjoined all stakeholders in the clean-up of Ogoni land to up their game to deliver on their responsibilities to achieve a healthy and sustainable environment in the Niger Delta.
