Genesis 9:23 – But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.

Most times, people throw consequences of their actions on others. We trade the blame game saying, ‘I was pressured’, or ‘I was cajoled’, better still ‘I was deceived’. We come up with different excuses for our shortcoming at moment of reckoning when we let down our guard and followed a wrong counsel.
In our bible verse for today, we see two interesting characters who choose to do the right thing. A case where the majority stood against a wrong advice from a minority. Shem and his younger brother, Japheth covered the nakedness of their father, Noah, even when Ham lured them to see it.
Ham, upon seeing his father’s nakedness did not cover him up but decides to expose him. He may have laughed, mocked and jest of it when narrating it to his brothers to come and see it too.
It is clear from the above verse that our responses to things we hear, see, and feel is our responsibility not the other way round. Like Shem and Japheth, we, too must learn to do the right thing at all times despite the pressure we face.
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Dear Lord, help us to always do the right thing, the right way. We pray for the grace to stand firm against all form of evil, now and always.
