Encourage Women of Child Bearing Age to Engage in Exclusive Breastfeeding, CS-SUNN Advices
The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, CS-SUNN has called on the chiefs and people of Biogbolo Community to encourage women of child bearing age to engage in exclusive breastfeeding.
State Coordinator, CS-SUNN, Mrs Ekinabhari Unity Ototo made the call when she led other members on a courtesy visit to the paramount ruler and council of chiefs of Biogbolo Community.
Mrs Ototo explained that exclusive breastfeeding requires mothers to feed their children from 0-6 months with only breast milk.
“Women should give only breast milk to babies from birth till six months, there should be no addition of water, the breast milk already contains all the needed nutrients for the child’s proper growth”
Also speaking, Mr Izibeya Kikile urged the chiefs to inform the people of the community about the Human Papiloma Virus vaccine for the prevention for cervical cancer which is free and available in the health centres for young girls between the ages of 9-14.
On her part, Lead Advocate, CS-SUNN, Lady Eunice Nnachi informed the chiefs of Biogbolo Community about the recent malaria vaccine which is also available in the health centers.
In his response, His Royal Highness, Chief Frank Amos, the Obeneken of Biogbolo expressed appreciation to CS-SUNN for the visit and promised to disseminate the information to the women and young girls.
“Many mothers know what to do but they may not do it well, so they need to hear it directly from you, and particularly breastfeeding mothers, our doors are open for you to come again”
Chief Amos urged CS-SUNN to visit the community often with more sensitization campaigns for the people.
