ENWAF Reiterates Commitment to Eradication of Human Trafficking

Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation, ENWAF, a non governmental organization, NGO reiterates its commitment to the eradication of human trafficking and all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence through a strengthened partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

A statement signed by Aqua Douye Akpuruku, ENWAF PRO quoted Lady Eunice Nnachi, CEO of ENWAF, during the foundation courtesy visit to the Bayelsa State Commander of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Abieyuwa Ikhidero in her office at the Federal Secretariat Ox bow lake, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Lady Nnachi noted that objective of the visit was to strengthen collaborative efforts in curbing the daunting menace of human trafficking, Gender Based Violence (SGV) and other related offences.

She affirmed the need for joint efforts in order to reduce human trafficking in Nigeria in general and Bayelsa State in particular, to the barest minimum.

The ENWAF CEO expressed optimism that the partnership between the NGO and the Agency will support a coordinated approach to mitigate human trafficking and forced migration in the country.

In her words “ENWAF l would provide continuous support in furtherance to the mandate of both organisations to end human trafficking and other related offences. I know that collaborative efforts involving key players is one way to stem the tide of human trafficking in the country.”

In her remarks, the state Commander of NAPTIP, Mrs. Abieyuwa Ikhidero applauded the giant strides and sustained efforts by ENWAF in advocating for the women and girls, while also commending the Chief Executive Officer for her doggedness, resilience, passion and commitment in promoting the Rights of women.

Mrs Ikhidero noted that the mandate of NAPTIP include Protection, Prevention, Prosecution and policy, pointing out that familiarization visits such as the one by ENWAF gives her opportunity to restrategise on initiatives and plans to reduce the human trafficking menace.

She noted that any organization that promotes the dignity of women is dear to NAPTIP, while disclosing that the Agency has carried out 50 sensitization in the state and would not relent in waging war against traffickers in the state.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a pamphlet, detailing the mission statement and mandate of the organization, as well as the offences and punishment created under the TIPPEA ACT, 2015.
