Fire Outbreak Razes Mopol 13 Office, Armoury In Makurdi
A devastating fire outbreak on Sunday morning razed the office complex and armoury of the Mobile Police 13 (Mopol 13) unit in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The fire reportedly broke out at about 10:30 a.m. and spread rapidly across the facility, destroying several office rooms and the unit’s armoury. Eyewitnesses said thick smoke was first noticed emanating from the Squadron Commander’s office shortly after 10:00 a.m. before the situation escalated into a full-blown inferno.
According to accounts from the scene, efforts were made to alert relevant authorities and summon the fire service. However, the flames spread with alarming speed, leaving the complex largely engulfed by the time emergency responders arrived.
Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, acknowledged the fire outbreak and the extent of damage recorded at the Mopol 13 facility.
She assured that a comprehensive briefing would be provided to the press after a preliminary investigation into the incident is concluded.
