Former President Goodluck Jonathan Airlifted to Nigeria After Being Stranded in Guinea-Bissau
Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has safely returned to Abuja after being evacuated from Guinea-Bissau amid escalating tensions following a military coup.
Jonathan arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday evening, bringing relief to many Nigerians who had expressed concern over his safety.
The former president was in Guinea-Bissau as head of the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, monitoring the country’s presidential and legislative elections conducted last Sunday. His team was still on the ground when the military announced it had taken control, triggering widespread uncertainty.
Amid the unfolding crisis, Jonathan was successfully airlifted from the country and flown back to Nigeria, marking a safe end to what had become a tense situation.
