Fuel Price Hike: Queue Mounts at Filling Station, Black Market Thrives in Yenagoa
Less than 24 hours after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL announced its new pump price for the premium motor spirit, PMS otherwise called petrol (fuel), queue mounts at petrol stations selling the product on Wednesday morning in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State.
Our reporter who monitored the situation reports that most filling stations around Opolo axis of Yenagoa are closed except one selling the product at N1,000 per litre with a long queue of motorists above the NNPCL price.
Apart from motorists, it was observed that several buyers were seen with various sizes of jerry cans at the petrol scamping for the product above the pump price of N1,000.
A anoymous buyer who spoke to our reporter, said he he bought a litre at N1,200 spending a total of N12,000 for his 10-litre jerry apart from the tips he gave to the petrol attendant at the station.
In one of the closed petrol station, our reporter, observed that there is a tank load of PMS waiting to discharge while black market operators wait patiently with jerry cans in kekes.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Tuesday raised the pump price of petrol to N897 per litre from the official price of N617.
