FURIBS July Congress Sparks Unity, Innovation and Growth
The Federated Union of Rivers Indigenes in Bayelsa State (FURIBS) held its July Congress on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Model Primary School, Biogbolo, an event marked by renewed commitment to unity, development, and identity.
Hosted by the Ogba Community, the gathering brought together members from across various ethnic blocs in a spirited atmosphere of brotherhood. Conversations focused on progress, shared identity, and collective empowerment, reinforcing the union’s core values.
In his welcome address, Chief Barisuka Prince Beteh, President of the Rivers Community in Bayelsa, charged members to remain united in purpose. “Sustainable growth can only thrive in an atmosphere of love and peace,” he emphasized. “Let us always put the interest of the Rivers House above personal ambitions and shun every form of division.”
One of the key highlights of the congress was the formal presentation of FURIBS identity cards to members who responded to the earlier directive to register and make payment. According to Chief Beteh, the initiative is part of his administration’s broader drive toward innovation and security. “These ID cards are not just for formality,” he said. “They are tools of identification and protection, especially in times like this when security concerns are rising.”
He further called on all ethnic chairmen and members yet to comply to do so, noting that the identity cards would also serve as the foundation for accessing future benefits within the union.
In a bid to boost financial inclusion and empowerment, updates were shared regarding the FURIBS Cooperative Society. Members were walked through the operational modalities and how they can key into the scheme to benefit from community-driven economic initiatives.
The congress also took time to express solidarity with one of its dedicated members, Vivian Sunday, whose mother’s burial is scheduled for September 27. The house was officially briefed and encouraged to support in every way possible.
