Governor Diri Expands Support for Bayelsa Media Awards
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has further strengthened his support for the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA) with the introduction of a new prize category, the SDD Prize for News Editor of the Year.
The latest endowment brings to four the award categories named after the governor. In previous editions, he sponsored the SDD Prize for Newscaster of the Year, SDD Prize for Presenter of the Year, and the SDD Prize for Reporter of the Year.
Winners in each category are expected to receive ₦500,000 and a tablet, a gesture widely seen as the governor’s commitment to media development and professional excellence.
Speaking on the development, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said Senator Diri values the role of the media in promoting his administration’s policies and projects. He assured that the governor would continue to support initiatives that encourage a vibrant and responsible press.
Project Manager of the BMA, Mr. Victor Binawari, praised the governor’s sustained contributions, describing them as a motivation for journalists to uphold professionalism. He also congratulated Senator Diri on Bayelsa’s 29th anniversary, highlighting his administration’s recent procurement of a 60-megawatt gas turbine to boost power supply in the state.
According to him, the project, when completed, would industrialize Bayelsa and open new opportunities for economic growth.
The Bayelsa Media Awards, now a major platform in the state’s creative industry, continues to recognize and reward outstanding media practitioners for their role in advancing the state’s growth and development.
