Governor Diri Honours Police Officer Who Rejected $17,000 Bribe, Gifts him car and 3 bedroom flat
SP Sentome Obi has received another recognition for being an officer with integrity and exemplary conduct.
In this austere times in which some other persons would have seen it as “miracle”, SP Obi rejected a $17,000 bribe offer from an organ harvesting suspect, who wanted to be left off the hook.
The office of the IG of Police, Abuja had also honoured the officer, Sentome for the rare conduct.
Back in his home state, Bayelsa, the Epie-born police officer has been honoured by the state governor, Sen. Douye Diri.
Governor Diri, proud of the ethical conduct of SP Obi, has gifted him a car and a 3-bedroom flat.
The gesture has attracted commendations, and buoyed up the public relations social capital of the governor and the Bayelsa State government.
SP Sentome’s character or ethical action might not have been influenced by his professional and personal conscience alone, but also by fear of God.
His moral rectitude also derives from the grooming of his parents, notably his late father, Chief Obi Seaboy, a rich man in his time, was also a disciplinarian and frank person loved by all.
That his son, SP Sentome, joined the Nigerian Police Force and rose to the present rank, amid dedication to service and ethical conduct, is not a thing of surprise to those who knew his late father.
I could recall that while I was a little boy, his late father was a peacemaker in Epie-Atissa, and usually liaised with the police to settle disputes in and out of police station, amicably for parties involved. His regular affiliation with the police in what is like today’s police community relations arrangement to maintain law and order in communities, made us kids to even think that he (Obi Seaboy) was a police man.
