The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded plans to begin another round of the continuous registration exercise scheduled to start on the 18th August, 2025 across the eight local government area of Bayelsa State with online pre-registration exercise.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mallam Isah Ehimeakhe stated this while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa also revealed that eligible voters should visit INEC portal and upload thier respective data online, adding that they should also validate the registration in any INEC accredited and designated centres physically across the state.
While condemning double registration, the Bayelsa REC warned that registrating twice is an offence punishable under the law, including fines, imprisonment or both.
He pointed out that under age registration is not permitted as it undermines the integrity of the electoral system, calling on stakeholders including traditional rulers, civil society organisations, the media, religious leaders and political parties to support and promote the voters’ registration drive.
In her remarks, INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, Madam Ene Akpa noted that voters’ registration is not difficult as against the general insinuations by members of the public, stressing that people should begin the process on time to avoid last minute rush and disappointment.
