The Ijaw Youth, IYC Council has faulted the role of the Judiciary in the rising political turmoil in Rivers state.
Spokesman, Ijaw Youth Council, Comrade Berefa Bedford stated this in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
According to Bedford, the rate at which political judgement is flying for and against rises urgent concerns, adding that if care is not taken the respect and regard for the judiciary would gradually loose steam in the political contest.
“It has come to the point where the hope of the common man has unfortunately become a parley for the highest bidder, getting a judgement at all cost to conflict with constitutional provisions of local government electioneering processes”
Bedford noted that there is an urgent need for the rejigging of the judiciary system so it will no fall prey to the antics of desperate politicians who are only interested in having their way all the time.
The judicial inconsistencies in Rivers state needs urgent intervention and advice the military to stay neutral to allow democratic process as entrenched in our constitution to prevail.
