NDBDA, Tinubu Support Group Rally Support Ahead of Presidential Visit to Bayelsa

As Bayelsa State prepares to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a one-day official visit this Friday, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Hon. Prince Ebitimi Amgbare has called on residents to turn out in large numbers to accord the President a rousing warm welcome.

Prince Amgbare, who also doubles as South-South Coordinator of Tinubu Support Group (TSG), alongside the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the group, Barr. Ebimobowei Okele made the appeal in separate remarks, emphasizing the significance of the visit to the state’s developmental trajectory.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the NDBDA headquarters in Port Harcourt, Prince Amgbare described the President’s visit as a reflection of the existing relationship between Bayelsa State and the Federal Government.

He pointed out that the improved collaboration with the federal government has accelerated the delivery of development projects in Bayelsa State, particularly in rural communities.

According to him, President Tinubu is expected to commission several key legacy projects executed by Governor Douye Diri during the visit. These include a 60-megawatt gas turbine independent power plant at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area and the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge spanning the River Nun in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Other projects scheduled for commissioning by the visiting President include the newly dualised Yenagoa City Link Road, linking the Bayelsa International Airport Road at the Gbarantoru axis in Yenagoa local government area and the 42km Sagbama-Ekeremor road, which had since been completed and awaiting inauguration.

Prince Amgbare stated that these projects align with the NDBDA’s broader mandate of enhancing irrigation systems, flood control, rural access roads, and water infrastructure across the Niger Delta Basin.

He stressed that improved power supply and transportation networks would open up riverine communities, boost agricultural productivity, and stimulate local commerce.

“Reliable electricity and improved connectivity are critical to sustainable development in the region. These projects will directly impact livelihoods by supporting healthcare, education, and small-scale economic activities,” he said.

The NDBDA chief also commended Governor Douye Diri for the ongoing infrastructural development efforts, including the ongoing expanded road network, river crossings, and power initiatives. He noted that projects such as the Oporoma and Polaku–Sabageria crossings would significantly reduce travel time for residents, particularly traders and farmers.

He urged communities to safeguard public infrastructure to ensure that the benefits of federal-state cooperation are sustained over time.

In his remarks, Barr Okele disclosed that members of the Tinubu Support Group in Bayelsa have been mobilised and sensitised ahead of the visit. He said the group remains committed to promoting the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, with a focus on grassroots engagement and sustained political support.

President Tinubu’s visit is expected to draw significant public attention, underscoring its importance to both the state and the wider Niger Delta region.
