NGOs Embark on Roadwalk to End 16 Days of Activism
To mark the end of the 16 days of Activism and the commemoration of the World Human Rights day, the Centre for Clinical Care and Clinical Research, CCCRN in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Children Affairs Empowerment and Social Development have embarked on a sensitization campaign to end violence against women and girls in Bayelsa State.
State Program Manager, CCCRN, Mr Moses Oleh noted that the 16 days of Activism is a time to create awareness on the need for all persons to work together, take effective actions for the eradication of gender based violence.
“In our state, Bayelsa, a whole lot has been done to reduce GBV and SGBV, we are on the streets to collectively support the government and to work with all other partners in the fight against all forms violence against women and girls”
Mr Oleh called on men in the state to support the campaign to end violence against women and girls adding that men also should protect their partners and female children from all forms of violence.
Also speaking, Director, Women Affairs, Mrs Felicia Owei pointed out that the campaign is also to help women know their rights which should be respected.
Mrs Owei stated that the ministry is working in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders to ensure that more women are sensitized and aware of the evils in gender based violence particularly in the rural areas.
“We are creating awareness so that people would know that violence against women and girls is bad, practices such as sexual harassment, rape, wife battery, harmful widowhood practices should be eliminated ”
She urged women, girls and children to always seek for help when faced with any form of violence.
Executive Director, WOMAN Lady Eunice Nnachi advised women to speak up and report any cases of defilement and violence to ensure that perpetrators are made to face the law.
The 16 days of Activism which began on the 25th of November, ends on the 10th of December.
